GHOST OF THE GOLDEN GROVES

Production Design / Art direction / Graphic design for ‘Ghost of the Golden groves’

Premiered at The temps Ø lineup at 48th Festival du Nouveau Cinema, Montreal and CINEQUEST , California. Directed by Aniket Dutta and Roshni Sen.

Grounded in the Bengali fantasy tradition, two ghost stories attack reality in bizarre and absurd ways. There’s the one about the land surveyor who finds himself prey to a facetious polymorph, and there’s the one about a wandering cook who takes refuge in an abandoned mansion haunted by a colourful female ghost. Make no mistake, Ghost of the Golden Groves is way out there. It’s a cinematic elsewhere in the form of a liberated creative space where the films of Kaneto Shindo, Apitchatpong Weerasethakul and Rick Alverson (Entertainment) collide. Fascinating, giddy and deeply disconcerting.

Serendipity Arts Festival 2018 edition

Emissions is a sound experience designed to reveal the gradients and effects of electromagnetic radiation. It functions as a seven-day introduction to the electromagnetic radiation that surrounds us, by converting it into sound waves

 People are immersed in electromagnetic fields from such sources as power lines, domestic appliances, mobile phones, and even electrical storms. All living beings sense electric fields, but the physical origins of the phenomenon are still unclear. The reaction of our cells to such radiation is a contentious issue.  As we recklessly careen towards 5g technology, political /corporate forces are constantly jostling over the narrative and perceived effects of radiation.

‘Emissions‘ takes us on a journey through the spectrum of radiation  via common everyday appliances, from a low-frequency transformer  to  your own smartphone which continuously  emits high- frequency cell phone radiation.  From a gentle buzz of vibration to severe burns, the music lets us feel the gradient.  Enclosed within three rooms, this project has been envisaged by two artists as a transformative synesthetic experience that jostles us out of our secure nook by materializing the invisible.

BYCULLA WALL PROJECT

A 16 x 75 foot mural for Piramal Aranya. A utopian vision of the Byculla area of Mumbai. A bright graphic representation of the flora, architecture and heritage of the Rani Baug area. Gloria Church, Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum, Bombay Pottery and an Irani Cafe are depicted with labels in English and Marathi. The scale and contrasting colors of the mural brightens up an otherwise dull stretch of Byculla. The project was followed by the #clickyourmumbai competition where I held workshop on photography and painting.
